The Kalbelia community is one of India's most backward, deprived, and neglected communities. Though tribal communities like the Kalbelias are culturally rich, and play an invaluable role in preserving indigenous knowledge and old cultures and traditions, they have never been recognised and validated. There is a huge lack of awareness when it comes to their rights, there is a lack of trust in dealing with those outside the community and there is a fear of the unknown which also prevents the Kalbelias from addressing their issues.
