Starting next year 2026, all third-country nationals (TCNs) who want to work in Malta will need to complete a pre-departure course and pass a test about life in Malta before moving 🛫.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri explained that the course will cover:
✅ Workers’ rights
✅ Maltese culture 🇲🇹
✅ Basic hygiene and household rules 🧼🗑️
✅ Maltese language basics 🗣️
✅ And more practical tips for daily life 🏠

Those who fail the test will not be allowed to work in Malta ❌. TCNs already in Malta can also take a similar course, and completing it can help them get a two-year work permit instead of one 📄💼.

The government aims to encourage foreign workers to integrate into Maltese society, making life easier for both residents and businesses 🤝.

📈 Foreign worker numbers in Malta have grown from under 10,000 in 2012 to around 42,000 in 2023.
