Brownells Gun Techs Keith Ford and Steve Ostrem are again at the Rock Island Auction Company to show us one of the Holy Grails of collectible firearms. It's an ultra-rare, beautifully made and preserved 1902 Luger Carbine in 7.65mm Parabellum (aka .30 Luger), originally owned by Hiram Stevens Maxim. Maxim was an American engineer and inventor working in England who invented the first machine gun, the Maxim or "Vickers" gun, used extensively in World War I. Georg Luger personally oversaw production of this carbine for his friend. Keith and Steve walk us through all its gorgeous details: luminous rust bluing, straw finished trigger and controls, Luger's personal "GL" marking, fire-blued screws, early grip safety (deleted from later German military Lugers), and a rear sight optimistically calibrated out to 300 yards. They'll also explain why the gorgeously figured Walnut buttstock no longer attaches to the rest of the gun.
