Gundam Theory: Bernie Wiseman Saved Zeon?

Gundam 0080: A Short OVA that came and went with little impact. Bernie Wiseman ends up looking like a pile of hamburger after a pointless battle, and he died for nothing.... or did he? Is it possible that he actually is one of the single most important members of the Zeon Army, changing the course of history for the Universal Century, or is this all groundless speculation?
