For our latest unboxing review we bring you the new 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack. Now, we know what you're probably thinking, and it goes something like this: "Big deal. It's a Golf wagon jacked up a couple of inches." OK, so that's true, but there's a bit more to it than that. Think of the Golf Alltrack like this: powered by the base Golf engine, equipped with the Golf R's 4Motion AWD system, and the slightly modified body of the Golf Sportwagen. The combination works very well. That engine is a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 170 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque, with power going to all four wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. This is the only engine/transmission combo offered on the Alltrack, and that's just fine.

The exterior features 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, fog lights, silver anodized roof rails and chrome window trim, and unique bumpers and front grille. The whole point was to give the wagon a more "outdoorsy" look. Step inside and you'll find just one upholstery option: leatherette, though it can be had in a choice of three colors. The reason VW went with leatherette is because it's easier to clean following a weekend camping getaway, or something like that. You know, "outdoorsy." Pricing is also reasonable, starting off at just under $27 grand. Bottom line: VW built a winner here and we also had our initial doubts. Not anymore. Enjoy the review!
