This mission introduces you to the basics of playing as a plant and the craziness of the Backyard Battleground. You need to escort a grumpy (and massive!) tree named Grumpy Stumpy back to the plant base. He's slow, so you're mostly clearing a path for him through groups of zombies, including a tougher Gargantuar. It's a good tutorial on using your primary weapon, abilities, and how to revive teammates (even if your teammate is a giant grumpy tree).

Crazy Dave's in trouble again! He wrote his battle plans against Zomboss on the soles of his shoes, but they got stolen. You're off to Bony Island, a volcanic map, to retrieve them. This mission focuses more on your movement and platforming skills, with less emphasis on combat. You'll be navigating tricky jumps and avoiding environmental hazards like geysers to reach those precious shoes.
