Rapid chess can save a bad day, and this chess game is the redeeming moment from a brutal session. Day 36 was rough. I lost elo on all time controls, bullet, blitz, and rapid, and some of the drops were double digits.

Still, there were a few moments in the games where the progress showed up, and this rapid game is that. It is the reminder that improvement is not linear, and it really is two steps forward one step back. Even on the days where the rating falls, there are decisions and sequences that are worth keeping, because they are proof the foundation is getting stronger.

This series is Road to 1500, and I am playing chess every day until I reach it. Brilliants and Blunders is the public record of that climb, and days like this matter because they test whether I keep showing up and keep reviewing when it is not fun.
