MUSIC AND is a series about music and musicians. From classical compositions to the spontaneous magic of improvisations, each episode offers a unique glimpse into the soul of music. Musicians are given complete autonomy to express themselves, whether through the pieces they choose to play or the stories they share. It's a celebration of artistic independence, where the only rule is to let the music (or the musician) speak for itself. Against the black backdrop, viewers are drawn into a space where only the musicians and their instruments are visible, with everything else fading into darkness. This deliberate choice removes distractions, allowing the music to take center stage and envelop the audience in its mesmerizing embrace. Through the lens of "Music and," viewers are transported to a place that transcends physical boundaries—a non-place where music becomes a universal language that bridges cultures and fosters understanding. Join us on this enchanting journey as we explore the limitless possibilities of sound and storytelling.
Evi Filippou (*1993), started taking percussion lessons at the age of 7. With a scholarship from the Megaron – the Athens Concert Hall, she graduated the Conservatory of Volos (Excellent and first prize) and relocated to Berlin to study at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler (Bachelors and Masters graduation with honors). In addition to performing with various orchestras and contemporary music ensembles all around Europe (a.o. Bolshoi Ballet Orchestra, Ensemble United Berlin), she performs solo classical and improvised music, duo with Katerina Fotinaki (ff duet), Lara Alarcón, Robert Lucaciu (Filippou & Lucaciu) and has collaborated with various prestigious artists of the european jazz scene like Chris Dahlgren, Arne Braun, Elias Stemeseder, Uli Kempendorff, Angelika Niescier. Evi is also part of n ï m Dance company of the Austrian choreographer Naïma Mazic. With her project inEvitable she explores her own compositions and arrangements and with Cabaret Catatonique her interdisciplinary curiosity. Evi holds a strong presence in the music-theatre scene (founding member of “Opera Lab Berlin”) regularly performing with various groups and theatre venues (a.o. Neue Werkstatt der Staatsoper Berlin, Rimini Protokoll, Hauen und Stechen Musiktheater Kollektiv). She also teaches percussion group lessons as an instructor of “Vincentino e.V. – culture strengthens children in Berlin”.
Robert Lucaciu (1988) is a musician living in Germany. At the age of 7, Lucacius began his musical education, initially on the cello. He gained his first experiences with improvised music and jazz during his teenage years in the State Youth Jazz Orchestra of Saxony, which led the then 15-year-old to be admitted to the junior class of the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig. There, he studied jazz music with professors Pepe Berns, Richie Beirach, Werner Neumann, among others, and classical double bass with Thomas Stahr. After completing his diploma at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig, Robert spent 1.5 years as a student in the composition class of Professor Thomas Zoller at the University of Music Dresden. Workshops and private lessons with the US-American bassist Mark Dresser were particularly formative for Lucaciu. Lucacius‘ artistic output is extremely diverse. He has worked for various theaters as a composer, stage musician, and actor, as well as a music educator, concert organizer, label owner, and program curator. His musical scope is also eclectic. In addition to contemporary jazz, he also performs classical music from the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as experimental and freely improvised music.
