Television's Vintage Black & White TV era: The Loretta Young Show

Описание к видео Television's Vintage Black & White TV era: The Loretta Young Show

As we near the end of our summer season programming, we reach our final destination - The Loretta Young Show. Ms. Young was a mega-star of motion pictures by the time she made the move to television. It turned out to be a very wise move indeed, and she became a television star as well during the 1950s.

The Loretta Young (Show) Theatre was an anthology series (there were many more of them on broadcast television in the 1950s than today) of dramatic and comedic programming. Ms. Young would introduce the evening's presentations, as well as do some commercial spots. She also acted in some of the story lines from time to time.

The Loretta Young Show Theatre ran on NBC from August 29, 1954 to September 10, 1961, as well as the syndication market. A big success.

Upon the end of her anthology series, she returned to the television prime time lineup on CBS with an all new The Loretta Young Show for the fall 1962 season. She and Lucille Ball both debuted their shows that same fall on CBS. Both were half hour sitcoms, about lovely widows and their children. In this Loretta Young series, she played Christine Massey, a children's story book authoress, and mother of seven (yes, seven) children. The story line followed Ms. Massey's new marriage and the trials and tribulations of the now nine-member Belzer family.

This second Loretta Young Show unfortunately lasted just that single season, debuting on September 24, 1962, and ending on March 18, 1963. Times were changing by that early-mid-1960s time frame, and a new group of actresses, such as Elizabeth Montgomery, Barbara Eden, Marlo Thomas, and Barbara Feldon, would be entering the television sitcom landscape.

RIP Ms. Loretta Young - a very debonair and lovely lady.
