Harta Berharga (piano cover by Kong) - 3months learning piano- ~Bunga Citra Lestari~

Harta Berharga is the first song that Kong does the cover song for piano. During the first three months of learning piano, he has learned some chord progressions. In less than a month, he did his own simple and sweet music for his teacher, which he gave the title " #FurRia."

After that, he asked me if he could play a little bit of classical without reading the music score. So I gave him a few choices of simple classical songs and asked him to choose. He ended up choosing one of the most well-known classical piece, which is Fur Elise by Beethoven. I told him just the first part I believe he could do it. So I ended up teaching him this one, through online. As usual, he ended up playing this so beautifully in his style. As far as I remember, It was in the short period of time as well. I believe it took him only 1-2 weeks to learn this one.

Then, he asked me to learn more song. And this time, he picked the song right away by himself. Guess what song he wanted to play? I believe most of people who play piano knows this song very very well. It was River Flows in You by Yiruma. At one period of time this song was in the #1 search and most of pianist has played or even successfully made this piano cover. Again, Kong ended up playing this very very nicely.

After seeing how quick he was to catch up with both of the songs, I decided to pick the next songs for him to learn. I was planning to give him Bach before he asked me for the River Flows. So this time, I really gave him Minuet in G MINOR by Bach. I remember he told me why this Bach piece seems much more difficult than the previous songs he learned. But he said he believed that he could do it. Not surprise me at all, he finally did this one.

Next song is The Beautiful Blue Danube by Johann strauss II. I already prepared in my mind before he done that minuet by Bach. My goal for him to learn this is to make him able to recognize different styles of some of the greatest composers during the classical period. Kong just kept on practicing and practicing until he able to play. The result is as always, amazing to me.

Then, after he finished with all the 4 songs, he told me he wanted to go back to do his chord progressions. He kept on playing those four songs while practicing chords as well. Beside learning from me, he also kept searching the sources that he could learn some runs, improvisation, and other music skills. Thanks to Youtube he was able to find what he was looking for, and in the language that he understands the most.

At one point, he started to think to cover one song that is simple and easy for him as a beginner. During the pandemic time, it was stressful for some people, including our friends and families in the whole world. Harta Berharga is a simple song from Indonesia, the country I was born. It has a beautiful melody and a very deep and touching meaning about family. I sent this song to Kong just to share the music. And he liked it, so he listened by himself little by little. Then he did his piano cover for this song.

Harta Berharga is originally written in the key B , then change key a little bit to D, back to B, then end up in C.
Since Kong was a beginner, he just learned most of everything in C( he describes it as “all white keys”), he said he’s going to make the whole thing in C, but just put his own creation there.
