An IQ test is a standardized test designed to measure Human Intelligence. The actual test measures cognitive processes such as remembering and problem-solving to determine a person's mental age, this is then divided by their physical age and the resulting fraction or Quotient is multiplied by 100 to obtain their Intelligence Quotient or IQ. For example, if your mental age is 10 and your physical age is 10, the Quotient will be 1 which gives you an IQ of 100, which is considered the average IQ.
By using these methods, we can go back and study historical figures, and by measuring the cognitive processes they were capable of, in relation to their age, we can estimate their IQ and compile this list of The Top Smartest People Ever!
Stephen Hawking. IQ Estimated 170.
His greatest discovery was that, contrary to Einstein's belief that "Nothing, Including light, can escape from the inside of a black hole". due to subtle consequences of quantum physics, they do emit radiation, this is now known as Hawking radiation.
Albert Einstein. IQ Estimated 175.
possibly the most famous scientist of all time, known for the equation E=mc squared and his theory of relativity. Einstein was a Jew and a pacifist forced to flee Nazi Germany, he sent a letter to President Roosevelt warning of the Nazi intention to build the Atomic bomb, which started a race to "Build The A-Bomb" and "The Manhattan Project" something Einstein deeply regretted, calling it his "One great mistake in life"

Garry Kasparov. IQ Estimated 187.
Possibly the greatest chess player of all time. Kasparov was just 22 years old when he became the World Chess Champion in 1985 and was world number one for over 20 years. In 1996 Kasparov played a 6 game match against IBM's supercomputer "Deep Blue". this computer was capable of searching through 200 million possible chess positions per second. Kasparov won the match 4 games to 2.
Isaac Newton. IQ Estimated 190.
Mathematician, Astronomer, Physicist, and philosopher, Newton formulated the Laws of Motion and Universal Gravitation, he built the first reflecting telescope, called the "Newtonian telescope", he developed the notion of Newtonian fluids as well as becoming master of the royal mint in 1700 and knighted in 1705.
Christopher Langan. Estimated 195.
This horse rancher was born in San Francisco in 1952. he had a troubled childhood and a troubled school life which led to him teaching himself. In 1999 Langan started a non-profit corporation called Mega Foundation to help people with IQs over 164. in 2008 he appeared on the game show 1 vs 100 and won $250,000. he has also developed a theory he calls the Cognitive-Theoretic Model of the Universe, which he claims explains the connection between mind and reality.
Leonardo Da Vinci. Estimated 200+
Inventor, Astronomer, Engineer, Botanist, Anatomist, and Artist, Leonardo's thirst for knowledge was unquenchable, his curiosity insatiable, and his inventiveness boundless. These qualities are common in most highly intelligent people, but the fact that Leonardo was proficient in so many different fields sets him apart from the rest.
