DECEMBER 5, INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY

The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development, which is known as International Volunteer Day, is commemorated on December 5, instituted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985.

Magdala especially wants to congratulate the Magdala Volunteers, as they dedicate a period of their life to God here in the Holy Land, during which they serve with their talents, live in community, seek their spiritual growth, and are a witness of companionship, respect, and generosity. It is an opportunity that fosters encounters with people from all over the world, different beliefs, and an immersion in the culture of the Middle East.
Volunteering is the place where compassion and solidarity meet. Both concepts share the same core values: supporting each other from a position of trust, humility, respect, and equality. In the different areas of service in Magdala, each volunteer has different tasks according to their talents and abilities, always available and committed to this vocation of service to others. Community life is one of the fundamental pieces of volunteering; Respect, collaboration, participation in community activities, and the fulfillment of tasks at home are essential for the experience to be optimal. Volunteers are called to witness Magdala's values, purpose, mission, and vision, to attract people, and foster encounters, renewal, and spiritual reconciliation. For 12 years, more than 3,500 volunteers, from more than 35 countries, have served as Magdala volunteers.

In the land of Mary Magdalene, it is sought that all people, especially volunteers, have a personal encounter with Christ, through different activities that allow them to deepen their faith and foster personal growth. Mary Magdalene and those who followed Jesus were the first volunteers of the Gospel. Today, Magdala volunteers share the same spirit and seek the extension of the Kingdom of God. For Magdala, volunteers are of great importance, as they are the ones who keep alive the experience of Galilee of the first century, in the twenty-first century.
Participation in Magdala volunteering is open to any individual who, above all, wants to serve others and live in the community.
