I'm not blocking the timer on purpose and trying to use trap only when he enrage while not using any harpoons or cannons so you can make the fight a lot easier if needed.
PRE-PATCH: The aerial spinning attack does way more damage now, so that's great, but the bug that made the roll dodge not invincible while holding the maul in hands is gone now so that makes the whole fight way better and the celestial thread isn't as needed anymore.

As for food buff I'm using : Smoked Dried Sliced Meat + Sliced meat for a total of +20 health and 10% damage boost.
Also try to hunt during the day only for the Solar Protection buffs.
