The Huawei Watch GT5 and GT5 Pro have a brand new heart rate sensor and improved dual-frequency sunflower GPS. In this video we will scientifically and systematically test if those changes improve performance compared to the previous generation, and also compare it to many of the other newly released watches, like the Pixel Watch 3. As you will see later, some results are quite unexpected. But, before diving into the testing, let’s briefly list the 8 most important features of these brand new Huawei Watches. One of the standout features is the improved TruSense sensor in both watches. This new sensing module has specialized darkened glass in between the LED and sensor, which should reduce unwanted light reflections and improve signal quality by over 20%. Similar to the new Pixel Watch 3, the GT5 series offers new running features in the form of advanced running form analysis, detecting ground contact time, vertical oscillation, and balance to help prevent injuries. But also other sports get improvements, like cycling, where you can now see your watch data live on your phone if you want. And during outdoor activities there are new color maps that can be used while working out. More importantly, Huawei says that the GT5 series also boasts improved GPS performance with dual-band sunflower GPS technology, enhancing distance and pace accuracy by 30%, and 20%, respectively. This is something I am of course looking forward to testing. Battery life is one thing Huawei does better than many other smartwatches on the market. The GT5 and GT5 Pro 46mm models offer up to 14 days of battery life, while the 41 and 42 mm models provide up to 7 days. With the pro model supporting wireless fast charging, being fully charged in 60 minutes. Lastly, the GT5 series supports full keyboard input for messaging apps, including SMS, WhatsApp, and Instagram, with predictive text and emoji support in 20 languages.
