I set out on a journey through the Tohoku region via Niigata. The trip happened to coincide with the start of the rainy season, and in the first half, persistent rain combined with equipment troubles made it difficult to film as planned. Fortunately, the weather improved in the latter half, and I gradually became more comfortable using the new gear, allowing me to resume filming. However, after switching to a new bicycle, I noticed a clicking noise being picked up during rides, which I’ll need to address going forward.

From Morioka City in Iwate Prefecture, I traveled through Akita and made my way to Sakata City in Yamagata Prefecture. I had actually visited Sakata during the outbound leg of the trip and done some filming there, but due to the rain and equipment issues at the time, this visit became a retake.

In front of Sakata Station, there’s a modern public facility that includes a library. As it closes in the evening, you can see students hurrying home after finishing their studies. The city center of Sakata is located a bit of a distance from the station. Interestingly, the area affected by the well-known Sakata Great Fire was also around the central district. After the fire, the area was rebuilt with an atmospheric shopping street that features a covered arcade. However, like many local shopping districts, it’s fairly quiet at night. That said, the few restaurants scattered throughout the area had a surprising number of patrons and seemed to be quite lively.
