If you have a Google Nexus 5 whose power button has failed or is failing and you are looking for a way to power on/off your screen without the use of privacy invading apps this is the video for you.

I will show you how I created an screen power on key.
My Google Nexus 5 is 2.5 years old and just yesterday it started powering on/off continuously. After a search, I found out that my problem is common on all Nexus 5. The problem is a broken or stuck power button. This is the common engineered fail point of these phones and the solution is either a motherboard replacement (common) or a replacement of the power button. That button replacement involves de-soldering and soldering a new power button on the motherboard. The power button and connection are very tiny so it is rather a very technical process.
In any case my power button was stuck and I managed to get it unstuck by opening my phone and removing the motherboard. Then I soaked the button in 95% isopropyl alcohol and worked the button for a few minutes. After that I let it dry and reassembled my phone. The solution worked but the power button was still temporarily getting stuck. So, I needed to find a solution to power my screen on without using the power button. One is the use of apps but many of those apps require the user granting crazy permission and many of them mine information from your phone. So after searching the web I discovered that this phone has a magnetic sensor. That gave me an idea and this video will show you the rest.

UPDATE: (Sept-21-2016) Took my phone today to a repair shop. In there they repplace the power button on the motherboard with a new one. My phone was in the shop for only 5 hrs. No he is back to normal. The cost 60 labor +5 dollars for the part.
