Emerald Lake is located in Yoho National Park, Field, British Columbia. It was discovered in 1882 by Thomas "Tom" Wilson, a Canadian mountain guide, who was accidentally led to the lakeside while gathering a group of horses that have wandered away. It is the largest of Yoho's 61 lakes and ponds and famous for its vivid turquoise green colour caused by the powdered limestone corroding from the snow melting from surrounding mountains.

It has various hiking trails, the famous of which is the easy but very rewarding hike around the lake. Distance is 5.2 km and takes around one hour. Various geological features are visible along the lake such as the President's range, Michael Peak and Glacier, Wapta Mountain, Mount Burgess and the Burgess Shale fossil beds. Also sits near the edge of the lake is the high-end Emerald Lake Lodge which offers local accommodation.

Canoe rentals are available at the boathouse near the parking lot which makes canoeing one of the famous activities during summer in addition to fishing, swimming, kayaking and other water sports.
It is also famous for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter.
