The motet "Andreas Christi Famulus", by Cristóbal de Morales, is a wonderful work using the "soggetto ostinato" technic. It has two parts, along which a short phrase (singing "Sancte Andrea ora pro nobis") is repeated eighteenth times in the second voice. This is a instrumental version, well in the tradition of the renaissance, and this phrase is played by an alto recorded, located in the center of the sound track.

This work, intended for the celebration of St Andrew (on 30th November) was quite popular on its time. In a printed version published in Antwerp in 1556, it appears among several other works by french and flemish composer. In the peninsula it deserved the honor of being published in a version for two vihuelas by Valderrabano, in 1547. Also, it appears in manuscript version in Toledo’s cathedral and El Escorial, among others.

Morales was one of the most popular and widely recognized renaissance composers. As member of the papal chapel, he was still remembered as late as the XVIIIth century, when he was cited as one of the most prominent member of the chapel, alongside with Palestrina.
