In a groundbreaking partnership, State Asphalts NSW and UNSW Sydney are turning coffee cup waste into sustainable and superior road base.

Led by Scientia Professor Nasser Khalili and PhD talents Nioushasadat Haji Seyed Javadi and Soheil Heydari, this research project has led to a successful pilot and the conversion of 10,000 tonnes of coffee cup waste into quality asphalt.

Thanks to a Cooperative Research Centres grant, the PAK-PAVE Roads initiative is an example of Western Sydney's circular economy at its best. With a pilot approved by the EPA, these roads aren't just about recycling - they're a testament to innovative design, offering unmatched durability and safety.
