I am a huge Lincoln fan. Not because he was perfect. He wasn't. Because he stood the line. When The United States was imploding.. he stood the line.
Ward Hill Lamon (January 6, 1828 -- May 7, 1893) was a friend of Lincoln. They had a mutual respect for one another in spite of the incredible strife engulfing the country and men as individuals. I suspect they saw in each other what I see. Men who hold the line. Men who don't run because it gets hard. People who stand.

Saving Lincoln is the true story of the incredible friendship of Abraham Lincoln and Ward Hill Lamon (Lincoln's self appointed protector). Lamon took it upon himself to keep the President alive. Lincoln was known to step onto a battle field to observe the carnage. Not because he enjoyed it. Rather as to internalize exactly what price was paid for his decisions. He weighed heavily before sending men to war. He agonized over decisions. Lamon knew this. He was there to protect his most cherished friend the 16th President of The United States.
