Is The Polestar 3 SUV a Warning for Tesla?

The 2025 Polestar 3, with its striking design and elevated seating position, marks Polestar's debut into the growing electric SUV market. Previously known for producing cars, the brand eliminates any ambiguity about the Polestar 3 being an SUV, unlike the crossover nature of the Polestar 2. Expected to hit the market in the latter half of 2024, the Polestar 3 boasts an attractive roofline, bold fenders, and dramatic wheel arches. Inside, the cabin exudes luxury with its clean layout and premium materials.

The base model offers an impressive 483 horsepower with all-wheel drive, while the Performance trim boosts that to 510 horsepower, adding 22-inch wheels, summer tires, and a sportier suspension. The standard version has a range of 315 miles per charge, while the Performance version offers 279 miles, both supporting fast charging via DC connection. Advanced safety features come standard, and future updates may include Volvo's lidar technology for potential full self-driving capabilities. Polestar is also planning another SUV, the Polestar 4, a fastback version of the 3.

As Polestar's first SUV, the Polestar 3 will be built in the U.S., alongside Volvo’s S60 and XC90 at the South Carolina plant. Pricing is expected to start around $69,000, going up to $81,300 depending on trim and options. While the Performance model offers more power, the Long Range Dual Motor variant, with its 483 horsepower and longer range, may be the better choice. It includes key features like adaptive cruise control, lane-centering, and a head-up display. For added luxury, the optional Plus package provides amenities like a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo and soft-close doors. Despite its price tag, the Polestar 3 is competitively priced against rivals like the Jaguar I-Pace and BMW iX.
