How to teach your dog the sit command⬇️

First things first, you need to be using positive reinforcement in this training! What does this mean? Rewarding for the desired behavior & NOT punishing for undesired outcomes✅

Here’s how to do it: using food, get your dog’s attention and get them to sit. (if they’re brand new to the sit, use a small amount of leash tension to guide them into the sit) 🐾

Once you get eye contact, say “Good!” and reward with the food. Once your dog is comfortable with that, add a distraction by throwing some food away from you (your dog will most likely break the sit) 🍗

After they break, start from the top and get them in the sit again by using some leash tension, getting eye contact, and rewarding. Say “Free!” and let them get the food you threw!

Try this out and let us know how your dog does! Even if your dog already knows the situation command, this is great practice to strengthen their connection and behavior to the command 💪✅
