Welcome back MechanicaLEi, did you know that the relational database model is the most important data model for commercial data processing applications and has become the leading data-processing software due to its simple advantages? This makes us wonder, What are the advantages of a Relational model?
Before we jump in check out the previous part of this series to learn about what a relational model is? Now, A relational model has the following advantages: First, it offers Structural independence, that is in a relational model, changes in the database structure do not affect the data access. Second is Conceptual simplicity. Since the relational data model frees the designer from the physical data storage details, the designers can concentrate on the logical view of the database. Third, it is easy to Design, implement and maintain a relational database model as it achieves both data and structure independence. Forth and last, Relational databases have Ad hoc query capability which means it has the presence of a very powerful, flexible, easy-to-use query capability. Data manipulation is the process of changing data to make it easier to read or be more organized. Data manipulation commands are used to manipulate data in the database. Data integrity, on the other hand, is enforced in both hierarchical and relational database models. The concept of data integrity ensures that all data in a database can be traced and connected to other data. This ensures that everything is recoverable and searchable. Having a single, well-defined and well-controlled data integrity system increases stability, performance, reusability, and maintainability. Hence, we first saw what the advantages of a relational model are and then went on to see what Data Manipulation and Data Integrity are?
