In X-Plore Holland / The Netherlands, we show you all the best places to visit and activities to do in this beautiful land below sea level. Watch this video to make your holiday a success.

KINDERDIJK
Kinderdijk is as Dutch as the Netherlands can get. This place is listed on the UNESCO world heritage list and is one of a kind. At Kinderdijk, you find numerous windmills.

FLOWER BULB FIELDS
Holland is famous for its flower bulb fields, the soil here is perfect for growing tulips, crocus, daffodil, and hyacinth. Make sure to be here between the end of March and the beginning of May to view this colorful spectacle.

VOLENDAM
The Netherlands had a lot of fishermen. Tough man went out to sail the lakes and seas to catch fish. In Volendam, time has hardly passed since then. Here they preserved the look and feel of that time perfectly.

AMSTERDAM
The most popular place in Holland is the capital city Amsterdam. Amsterdam is famous for its canals. In summer, you can cruise these canals in a boat, and during winter, you might be able to do some ice skating here. The red lights district (Dutch: wallen) you can find many windows, and cozy cafes to have a drink with friends. Make sure to stop by a coffee shop, not to get coffee but to get a better taste of this place haha. Here you find the Anne Frank huis, a famous Jewish girl who kept a diary during WW2. The Jordaan district is where to find the most typical Amsterdam houses. For a unique summer dining experience, you should go water BBQing.

CARNIVAL MUSEUM
Carnival is a big thing in the south of the Netherlands. During these couple of day’s people are all dressed up and ready to party. There are numerous festivals big and small to accommodate all the drunk people.

HEUSDEN
Heusden is a very special medieval settlement village. This village is designed as a fortress to keep enemies out. The houses and streets still look the same as they did back then. So make sure to park your car just outside Heusden because it will be hard to find a suitable spot inside.

LOONSE EN DRUNENSE DUINEN
The Loonse en drunense duinen are Europes larges moving sanddunes. The wind is constantly changing this landscape. This place is unknown amongst tourists, but worth spending a day here, walking over the sand dunes, having a picnic, or riding the 21km mountain bike track.

GIETHOORN
Giethoorn is also known as Venice of the Netherlands. like Amsterdam, it has canals, but it lacks streets. You can only access the inner part of Giethoorn by boat or by foot. Try to avoid the busy summer holiday months, July and August. It's best to go here in June or September. The weather is often better (less rain), and it's way less crowded. We recommend going on a canal cruise.

THE VELUWE
The Veluwe is the biggest National Park in Holland. It is so close to Germany that this place is not flat and below sea level at all. Over here you find rolling hills loaded with heather fields. Visit the Veluwe from mid-August to mid-September to witness flowering heather fields. When you visit this place very early in the morning, you might be able to spot the Dutch big five: foxes, badgers, roe deers, wild boars, and red deers. This place is also perfect for geocaching.

MUDHIKING:
Mudhiking at the Wadden islands is a unique experience. During low tide, you can walk over the bottom of the sea. Here, you find many edible plants and see unique marine life and birds. It is even possible to walk from the mainland to some of the islands. We recommend doing this only with a guide. Mud hiking is dangerous as inexperienced hikers often get surprised by the incoming tide and risk drowning.
