Every single person who has ever been interviewed has received this question "Tell me about Yourself?!" and whenever we got that question we didn't know what to answer or we didn't answer it the right way.

It's not a question that you hear very often nowadays but you still might encounter it every now and then. I have stopped asking this question on my phone and video calls just because I don't see the point of it. Everything that I can get out of this question, I can also get it from a heart-to-heart conversation with anyone.
I am not saying that this question is easy to answer, on the contrary, it is very difficult because you never know what the person who is the interview you is looking for.

The first thing to NOT talk about is your personal life, this is not what we want to hear. On the behalf of all Recruiters and Talent Acquisition Specialists, I can tell you that this is NOT what we are looking to hear from you. We don't need you to tell us a story about your personal life, we need you to tell us a story about your experience. When you are telling us about your experience, there are a few things to pay attention to.

Here are a few things that you should be focusing on:
1. Experience
2. Skills
3. Shortcomings

These are the things that we want to hear from you because the way you talk about these things will give us an idea of wheater you know your own experience, expertise, skills, and shortcomings.
Now, as I mentioned at the beginning I don't ask this question. That's both true and not true, I don't ask it in a way like "Tell me about yourself" I phrase it differently like "Give me an overview of your career" or "Tell me about your experience". This is the heart-to-heart conversation I was talking about because we can ask additional questions about your experience that don't look like we are interrogating you.

The interview should be a communication between the two people talking and not a mutual interrogation to get out more information from each other.
