In this video, Keith Barker covers protected ports. This includes what they are used for, how to implement them and how to verify that they are properly functioning. He explains how the feature, which is also known as Private VLAN Edge, is a great technique to prevent two or more ports on a switch from having direct access to each other.

After watching this video, you will know how to implement protected ports. Keith shows you how to configure the interfaces of the ports so as to prevent communication with each other, by using the switchport command. He further explains why you should not configure your router interface as a protected port.

He also explains why an unprotected port can communicate with a protected one. He then shows you how you can verify that your ports are protected. He does this by first using the show command on the port and then by trying to ping traffic between two protected ports.
