When it comes to tiffin eateries in Bengaluru, there are those that are celebrated, even venerated, and splashed across media, both traditional and new. Nothing wrong with that. And then there are those that quietly go about their work, serving customers for decades on end, content to not bask in the limelight. A great example of the latter is Mahalakshmi Tiffin Room in Basavanagudi, South Bengaluru, though open since 1926 is still unknown to most in the city. I visited them one afternoon to meet the second and third generation owners, and to also taste an assortment of their honestly-priced fare, including a deliciously light and fluffy khali dosae and a satisfying sambar.
