Rest

Composer Frank Ticheli's "Rest" perfectly captures the tone of poet Sara Teasdale's "There Will Be Rest." Her words serve as the text for Ticheli's work:

There will be rest, and sure stars shining
Over the roof-tops crowned with snow,
A reign of rest, serene forgetting,
The music of stillness holy and low.
I will make this world of my devising
Out of a dream in my lonely mind.
I shall find the crystal of peace – above me
Stars I shall find.

Michael Gallehue, Director of the Ohio Valley British Brass Band, scored Ticheli's work for brass band from the wind band arrangement by Dr. Russel Mikkelson, and dedicated it to Brass Band of Columbus founding member Gary Tirey, who passed away April 1, 2017. BBC Music Director Brian Stevens leads the combined bands during their annual shared concert; recorded May 21, 2017 at The Church at Mill Run, Hilliard, OH.
