This short video tutorial explores generative methods of creating melodies using MIDI FX grouped into a rack. This is based on a combination of Ableton plugins such as the Arpeggiator, Melodic Steps, Random, Note Echo, Scale, Pitch etc which can be controlled via macros to create variation and generative, almost random movements. These notes trigger contrasting sounds from a couple of Collision patches and an instance of Analog to provide a slower harmonic bed.
A range of audio FX then process the sound with the Hybrid Reverb and Echo particularly useful.

The way the rack processes notes and creates melodic ideas allows a form of improvisation encouraging certain movements and patterns to be played on the Push. I find this a very productive way of generating ideas and can be a good distraction from more organised production activities such as Arranging or Mixing.

The audio recordings are generally treated to further processing and development into new pieces however with some slight tidying they can occasionally work as a standalone piece.
