If I could retell this story, I'd shine more light on how much these guys all take care of each other. I've never seen such a tight knit community before. Sharing is, literally, a way of life for them. Everything is done with consideration for their neighbor’s well-being. Probably, this is how our hunter-gatherer ancestors lived & worked together. Bravery, honesty & charity are non-negotiable traits in Lamalera. If these traits were the norm for the rest of the world, it would, without a doubt, be a much happier place.

In my hometown in Connecticut, nobody thinks about taking care of the local widows. To be fair, there are significantly less widows, but still. And the idea that, say, a local real estate agent, would, after making a big sale, give a significant chunk of his commission to his neighbors, is absurd. He probably barely even knows his neighbors. But in Lamalera, it would be absurd not to share.

I am genuinely honored to call these guys my friends. And I aspire to be more like them.
