Hormones: Melasma & Your Skin

Melasma? Hormones & Skincare. Recently, I discovered that I am a carrier of Factor V Leiden (a blood clotting disorder) and so I had to change my contraceptive. Over the past 2-3 years I have been struggling with my skin - dark spots on my forehead, on my cheeks and acne. I thought it was possibly due to changing and then going off of birth control. I thought the switch might have caused my melasma and acne but it also adversely affected my mood, and so I started trying to learn more. I reached out to Dr. Hirsch, a plastic surgeon, to learn more about melasma, my skin, and to find ways to treat the melasma and then Dr. Mama Jones, an OBGYN to learn more about birth control and the potential role it could play in the onset of melasma.
