For 48 nights I wore both the FitBit and a professional scientific sleep EEG to bed 🛌. The professional device basically has more than a dozen electrodes attached to my head and face and tracks my brain waves. By wearing this device and the FitBit to bed, I tested how well the FitBit is able to predict the different sleep stages.

📝Notes📝
I am not trained as a sleep expert. What I describe in this vlog, I have learned by talking with specialised scientists and reading scientific papers about the subject.
One reason the FitBit predicts more awake time, might be because when sleep is scored with an EEG device, you have to be awake for at least 90 seconds before it is scored as "awake". With the FitBit, this can be as short as 30 seconds. This makes it more likely that the FitBit predicts more time awake.

Many thanks to Sebastian Idesis, Frederik Weber and Martin Dresler from the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging for all their help with the EEG measurements
