India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the crucial link between the country's development and environmental conservation during the inauguration of a tribal art exhibition titled 'Silent Conversation: From the Margins to the Centre' in Delhi on October 17, 2024.
He commended tribal communities for their significant role in biodiversity protection and highlighted the success of 'Project Tiger', initiated in 1973, attributing much of its success to these communities.
Sankala Foundation organised the exhibition in cooperation with the National Tiger Conservation Authority, National Human Rights Commission and International Big Cat Alliance.
Jaishankar described the exhibition as a medium that conveys a profound message about the harmonious coexistence of people and nature, illustrating the enduring bond tribal communities have with their environment.
He also spoke about the philosophy of uplifting marginalized groups, particularly tribal populations, through targeted policies that enhance education and sustainable livelihoods.
The Minister noted the positive impact of the Aspirational Blocks Programme on the living conditions of tribal communities and expressed pride in showcasing tribal art internationally.
He also said that the emotional connection between tribals and their environment is palpable through the exhibition, evoking a sense of reverence for Mother Earth.
Later, he posted on X saying, "Delighted to inaugurate the tribal art exhibition 'Silent Conversation: From Margins to the Centre' in New Delhi today. Witnessed a beautiful exposition showcasing our ethos of environmental conservation, sustainability and living in harmony with nature. Commend the exceptional work of our talented tribal artisans.
