Trivia: I was doomed by Minowa. When I shot the video for the first time, the Wi-Fi connection of my iPhone with the camera suddenly got disconnected. I use my iPhone as a monitor of the camera so I was unable to see what I was recording. Fortunately the camera has a built-in display so I kept shooting the video anyway till the end but it’s so small that the result was somewhat disappointing.

I decided to go back to Minowa for the 2nd time, but the Wi-Fi got disconnected at the same spot again. I stopped shooting and checked how it happened and found that it gets disconnected as soon as I enter the Minowabashi station area. It’s 100% reproducible. So I chose to connect with a cable and shot the video but the video camera’s exposure malfunctioned at the end of the video and suddenly all the images got dark and black.

I went there for the 3rd time. This time it went well. But there was one scene where an old lady got involved in a car accident and I decided not to use this footage. It was not such a big accident and she didn’t get injured or anything but I thought it was inappropriate.

4th time. As soon as I started walking, heavy rain started pouring. I waited for a while but it got dark outside. Unlike Shibuya or Shinjuku, Minowa is not the place you shoot a video in the dark.

I almost gave up and decided not shooting Minowa anymore but I really wanted to show how I felt when I went there for the first time. So this is the video I shot for the 5th time. There are several elements missing which made me feel like I went back to the Showa era such as elementary school kids playing on the streets. When I saw them playing not on smartphones but jumping ropes or buying snacks at the snack store we call “dagashiya”, together with the scene of Minowabashi station, I almost came to tears. This video may not be as flashy as Shibuya or Shinjuku videos but I hope you understand why I felt so nostalgic.
