Dear L&I Interpreters,
 
As many of you have noticed lately, more L&I interpreters have become more outspoken about the poor working conditions in the L&I system, the unfair distribution of appointments, monopolies assisted by medical providers and facilities, unfair suspensions by the SOSi system through the so-called "Incident Resolution Process" created by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) union and imposed by the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I), and several interpreters getting banned from clinics without a proper reason or investigation.

As a result, WFSE leaders have become increasingly embarrassed because their incompetence has been continuously exposed over the last two years since they became certified to represent interpreters. Instead of apologizing for their negligence, gross incompetence, and disrespect towards interpreters at large, the Local 1671/Interpreters United President Quan Tran decided it was a good idea to scold and reprimand interpreters for speaking against L&I, the SOSi company, and the WFSE union.

Quan Tran and the WFSE union can't stand when interpreters collectively speak out, standing for themselves without the WFSE union. That's why they want interpreters to be silent and compliant, waiting for the pathetic WFSE leaders to fix the issues they promised to address years ago, but remain unresolved. They want interpreters to "trust the WFSE union," but they really want interpreters to keep quiet and accept the way things are. Their whole strategy is to ignore the issues to sell you on he need for their union to fix the problems they created.

They waited years to sue L&I and self-insured companies for unpaid invoices to L&I interpreters since 2021. Now, they are bragging about having a trial set for September 8, 2026. That means most L&I interpreters will have waited 5 years without a resolution for those unpaid invoices. Instead of suing interpretingWorks (since it could only pay interpreters after receiving payment from L&I and self-insured companies), they should have used their so-called influence and power to persuade L&I to compel self-insured companies to pay interpreters, given that L&I oversees these companies.

As you can see, they neglected this huge problem for years to sell you on their mediocre services later.
 
Despite all this, L&I interpreters have largely ignored WFSE leaders and have decided they will not be silenced. They've had enough. WA INTERPRETERS has been interviewing brave interpreters who are tired of endless meetings between WFSE leaders and L&I officials to fix our industry, with no results.

Is your life better as an L&I interpreter two years after WFSE started representing interpreters? Do we have better working conditions? Have we gotten more benefits and a significant pay increase? Do we have our mileage reimbursement back? Do we have more access to appointments? Are we getting paid on time?

The answer to all of those questions is a resounding NO for the vast majority of L&I interpreters. Why would you support such a useless union?

Don't you think you deserve a better union? I happen to think we all do as interpreters. The WFSE union has proven to be unfit to represent L&I interpreters.
