A group of teenagers is facing charges after crashing a stolen truck in Clermont County on Thursday.

The incident left them with injuries after the vehicle went over a guardrail and into the woods.

Pierce Township Police Chief Paul Broxterman said a license plate reading camera was instrumental in tracking down the stolen Honda pickup truck, which had been reported stolen out of Hamilton County.

"It's a game changer for us," said Broxterman.

Shortly after 2 a.m., a Flock camera alerted police to the truck's presence in the area. An officer attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. Minutes later, it was found crashed off the road in the woods. An officer discovered a 17-year-old boy inside the truck in significant pain.

"Climb out to me now," the officer said.

Broxterman described the scene and just how bad the crash was.

"The front seat passenger was pinned in the car; the dashboard has pinned the subject's legs," said Broxterman.

Firefighters had to break the door open to rescue him, and he was flown to the hospital.

Approximately five hours later, police received a report of two suspicious teens.

"They were all muddy and everything, so we went to check it out, and sure enough, these two individuals we connected with the vehicle chase with the stolen car," said Broxterman.

The three teens, aged 16, 17, and 19, are facing charges of receiving stolen property. Broxterman noted that once the driver is identified through DNA, additional traffic charges will be filed.

"In 37 years of law enforcement, I see criminals getting younger and younger, and it's very disheartening," Broxterman said. "We need to hold people accountable for their actions."

All three teens were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
