''Khon'' is a folk theatre performed by communities of North & South Dinajpur districts of West Bengal, India. 'Khon' is a extempore dramatization set against a background of the daily life of the village. There are divergent views about the origin of the word, 'Khon'. But it is generally accepted that Khon evolves from ''Khondo'' (''Kando'' in Bengali) which means a curious or sensational event in local Rajbongshi dialect.
