River Guerguerian, Middle Eastern Percussion & Composition

With his name on over 300 albums & soundtracks, it's an honor to have Western North Carolina local River Guerguerian joining the Global Folk Music Retreat Oct 3-9 at Wildacres in Little Switzerland, NC.
River will offer Rhythms from the Middle East & Sound Meditation for Tracks 1 & 2, and Middle Eastern Music Ensemble Sprinkled with Jazz for Tracks 3 & 4. Bring your own instrument or voice for the Middle Eastern Ensembles as you work in ensemble format with new scales & polyrhythms, or experiment with provided frame drums, gongs, and bowls in Tracks 1 & 2.
River has performed in over 30 countries with such groups as BBC Symphony Orchestra, Omar Faruk Tekbilet, Tibetan Singing Bowl Ensemble, & Ziggy Marley & the Gipsy Kings. He has been inspiring audiences with his ecstatic & versatile music for over 35 years.
In 1994, River sold all of his possessions and stepped off of the grid. He resided in a wildlife sanctuary in the Himalayas. The adventure lasted for five years and led to his immersion into sound and nature.
River is the Music Director of the Odyssey Community School & Artistic Director of Asheville Rhythm, which produces the Asheville Percussion Festival.
