• Headspace Gas Chromatography is specifically chosen because it isolates volatile compounds directly from the tissue itself, not from any preservative liquid.
• If formalin had contaminated the sample, NMS would have reported interference or included a note stating that the sample was unsuitable for quantitative interpretation.
• The report doesn’t contain such a disclaimer, meaning the methanol detected came from within the liver tissue, not from an external source.

• Chicago Area Autopsy (Darrell Qualls’ email) claimed the methanol “came from tissue placed into formalin.”
• However, the lab paperwork proves the tissue was homogenized, which means it was processed as fresh biological tissue something that can’t be done with tissue soaked in formalin because formalin cross-links and hardens tissue proteins.
• If they had really taken tissue “out of formalin,” NMS would have noted discoloration, fixative odor, or chemical interference. None of that appears.
