Eagle Rock is a 6.3-mile out-and-back hike along the Pacific Crest Trail that delivers an 856-foot elevation gain. This trail is well suited for weather under 88 degrees, as the temperature can randomly spike in the hot sun. It requires plenty of hydration and a light pack for a three-to four-hour hike.

Eagle Rock is a monument left behind by its ancient native peoples. I believe it to be a great gathering place, as there is evidence of anamorphic rock formations that resemble birds, turtles, and stacked rock totems within 2 to 3 miles of the primary formation. Gathered in front of Eagle Rock is a grouping of smaller stones shaped like animals, giving witness to the great eagle.

The forest behind the firehouse en route to Eagle Rock reminds us that ancient people inhabited the lands not long ago and prominently left their markings within the trees and weathered petroglyphs along the way.

San Diego County credits the Kumeyaay people and has often referred to the area as a significant lookout point. This area was a place for celebration and a union of many people from all over the region. You will have to share what you think in the comments.
