New Beacon School Queen Bee Cells are in there amongst 150,000 other female bees. When they hatch they will each take their own attendant drones and go do what evolution has taught them.

However, due to our every changing random weather patterns successful mating of queen bees is becoming more unreliable and more frequently the colonies decision is to replace her yet again. That means death to the old queen! Queen bees can only mate within a very short window of time after hatching and our recent cold wet weather would typically cause infertility.

Sometimes two queens will be asked to work together laying eggs at the same time for a few days to just make sure they are laying well and colonies future success is reliably assured. Then the oldest queen is told to buzz off very unceremoniously.

Recently scientists have discovered genetic diversity is maintained by the drones (male bees) roaming between colonies which ensures they do not mate with their genetic mother, very sensible! Like all insects there is much more complexity within the beehive society than you would think and it all comes with a sting in the tail!
