A highly protective slow loris mother and her tiny infant were recently rescued by the BKSDA and BBKSDA, with support from our partners at YIARI.
This beautiful duo was discovered by a local resident four days prior while they were collecting bamboo in the forest. Recognizing that they belonged to a protected species, the resident promptly contacted the authorities, who then organized a swift rescue mission.

Upon their arrival, the rescue team encountered the mother as she shielded her baby, visibly frightened and confused by the unfolding events. To conduct a thorough examination, the veterinarians had to temporarily separate them. Both the mother and baby were then administered deworming tablets as a precautionary measure against infection. Despite a minor tooth injury found in the mother, both lorises were otherwise healthy and are expected to be returned to the wild soon.

The outreach work conducted by YIARI is essential in raising awareness among local residents about the importance of protecting species like the slow loris. By educating the community on how to act when they come across such protected animals, YIARI helps ensure these animals are safely directed back to their habitats, minimizing the risk of human-animal conflict.
