This video explains how a pitot static tube helps in the measurement of airspeed. Further, it is also explained how the airspeed indicator works, and airspeed is indicated on the dial of the airspeed indicator.
The pitot static tube is a device that is used for the measurement of airspeed. Pitot static tube measures total pressure and static pressure. These two pressure lines are then connected to the airspeed indicator. The total pressure is fed inside the diaphragm of the airspeed indicator and static pressure is connected to the space outside the diaphragm. So the diaphragm experiences a differential pressure which is equal to dynamic pressure. Dynamic pressure is a direct indication of airspeed. So, the diaphragm expands w.r.t the dynamic pressure. This movement of the diaphragm is captured with the help of levers and gear linkages, which are connected to the needle of the airspeed indicator. Hence, the dial gauge of an airspeed indicator directly shows the indicated airspeed.
