“Un Pueblo Amante de Maria” - A People in Love with Mary

Filipinos of all walks of life are known to be a maternal people, constantly depending on the guidance and aid of their mother. It is no wonder that, in a predominantly Catholic country like the Philippines, the Filipino relationship with Mary is no stranger to this.

From the northern islands of Batanes to the southern most villages in Mindanao, the Blessed Virgin has always found a way of manifesting herself and making her presence known in the best way she will be received. Some of these manifestations come in the form of Apparitions, Locutions, and Images.

As these Images become the center of devotion, their significance deepens, and these become beacons of hope and signifiers of the people’s faith, representing not only Mary but the people who love her as well.

The strong devotion of the people have garner education recognition from the church hierarchy and a handful of these Images have been granted the honor of a Pontifical Coronation. In Celebration of the fervent Marian Devotion of Filipino Catholics and the 500th Anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines, let us explore the devotion of the Filipino People to Mary, as she brings us closer to her son, Jesus!
