Karnal Singh, a 1984 batch IPS officer, has over 34 years of distinguished work in governance, counter-terrorism, anti-money laundering, and cyber- crime. He retired as the Chief of the Enforcement Directorate where he led investigations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act relating to the 2G scam, Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, Bank of Baroda, AgustaWestland, Panama Paper leaks, coal blocks, cases under the FEMA, and others. He has also led the Crime Branch and the Special Cell of Delhi Police, which cracked several terrorism cases during his tenure, including serial bomb blast cases in 1996-97, 2005, and 2008. He has received the President's Medal for distinguished service and the Police Medal for meritorious service. In 2021, he was conferred the Satyendra K Dubey Memorial Award by IIT Kanpur in recognition of his exemplary service to humanity and his unbending integrity in upholding human values. He has also penned a book titled Batla House: An Encounter That Shook the Nation.
