Starter Motor Replacement. Honda CR-V. Removal of intake manifold NOT Necessary,.
Replacing a Honda CR-V starter motor involves gaining access by removing the intake manifold (for most models) or working around it (some newer models), disconnecting the battery, unbolting the starter (typically 14mm & 17mm bolts), removing the old unit, and installing the new one, ensuring proper connections and reassembly, often requiring specific sockets, pliers, and coolant management. The process varies slightly by year, but the starter is generally located between the transmission and engine block, often requiring removal of the intake plenum for access.
General Steps & Considerations:
Safety First: Disconnect the negative battery terminal (usually 10mm) and be aware of any anti-theft codes needed for your radio/display after reconnecting.
Access the Starter:
Remove the Air Intake: Remove the air box and intake tube to access the intake manifold.
Remove Intake Manifold:
Disconnect coolant hoses (expect some coolant loss), vacuum lines, electrical connectors,
Unbolt the manifold (12mm bolts) to move it aside or remove it for better access.
Alternative (Tighter Access): Some newer models might allow access by working around the intake, requiring removal of the knock sensor and careful maneuvering.
Remove the Starter:
Disconnect the main power wire and solenoid connector from the starter.
Loosen and remove the starter bolts (commonly 14mm top, 17mm bottom).
Wiggle, tap, or use a tool to gently dislodge the old starter from its mounting point.
Install the New Starter:
Compare the new starter to the old one to ensure correct fitment.
Apply lubricant to the starter bolts.
Hand-start the bolts, then tighten them securely (specific torque specs might apply, e.g., 33 ft-lbs & 47 ft-lbs for some models).
Reconnect the power wire and solenoid connector.
Reassembly:
Reinstall the intake manifold, hoses, electrical connectors, air box, and other components in reverse order, ensuring everything is secure and properly routed.
