The movie is a short documentary of the joint CSSP and Pro Public approach in Nepal in 2015, realised by the company Middleway Film:

CSSP is currently cooperating with Pro Public, a Nepali NGO working on mediation and dialogue. Pro Public has created networks of dialogue facilitators and small dialogue groups in our working districts since 2012. In these dialogue groups ex-combatants and so-called conflict victims shared their personal stories and developed capacities for empathy and dialogue.

CSSP is now supporting the wider outreach of these dialogue initiatives at district level as well as at the national level. Theatre art has proven to work as a strong social connector in Nepali communities. CSSP decided to combine its efforts in mediation and dialogue with an interactive theatre approach. We are conducting capacity building measures for theatre artists and dialogue facilitators in ‘Playback Theatre’, an approach for public storytelling and dialogue. Rooting the approach in Nepali culture, the theatre form was called “Chautari Natak” in Nepali. The Chautari tree is a famous spot in almost every Nepal community were people come to have rest, meet others and even to settle their conflicts. Chautari Theatre is the connecting point for the community coming together to share their experiences from the armed conflict in public. In these dialogues people of different “sides” in the conflict tell their personal stories and listen to those of others. An atmosphere of mutual respect is generated. Through theatre art and music the potential for deeper understanding, acknowledging and integrating of the painful past is being supported.

The selected focus communities are located in: Banke, Bardhiya, Dang, Rupandehi, Mahottari and Udayapur. We also work on outreaching to the national level by advocating that personal healing and mutual understanding are crucial aspects and precondition for the national reconciliation process.
