Learn how to germinate, sow, and grow Lobelia from Seed. In this video I plant some Cardinal Flower (Lobelia Cardinalis) and Great Blue Lobelia ( Lobelia Siphilitica) seed. I will tell you the general growing conditions and characteristics of each plant while I sow the seeds. It is pretty easy to grow cardinal flower, or blue lobelia as long as you give them the proper conditions (moist soil, partial to full sun).

Both plants are loved by humming birds and butterflies. The flowers have deep throats which means only certain pollinators can actually reach the nectar. If you enjoy watching hummingbirds and butterflie on your flowers, these are great choices for your garden. They don't require much spacing either, 1-2 feet (30cm-60cm) is all that is needed. They are very showy and bloom for a long time mid-late summer. The pictures in this video are all from gardens I have built over the years.
