A dangerous and record-setting lake-effect snowstorm has effectively brought parts of Western New York to a standstill, with some areas downwind of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario being buried under nearly four feet of snow in a matter of days. Heavy lake-effect snow will continue through 4 p.m. Wednesday, with 2 to 4 feet of snow possible in the most persistent bands. The heaviest accumulations are expected across southern Jefferson County, northern Oswego County, western Lewis County, and the Tug Hill Plateau. Meanwhile, A dangerous and prolonged lake-effect snow event is currently hammering the Niagara Region, with bands of heavy, wind-driven snow triggering travel warnings, school closures, and significant disruptions on both sides of the US-Canada border. Residents in southern Niagara, including Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. Catharines, and Fort Erie, are experiencing rapidly changing, hazardous conditions.
