We often get asked if there is any difference between wall and ceiling insulation. Both of these products are made from the same material but are manufactured at different thicknesses and densities.

People want to know if they can install ceiling insulation in walls and vice versa. Well, this depends on a few things...

1) Are your wall cavities deep enough? Ceiling insulation is generally too thick for standard wall cavities . Compressing ceiling insulation into wall cavities can cause the plaster to warp or bow and that will reduce the thermal performance of the insulation.

2) Does it meet the R-value requirements? Wall insulation can be used in the ceilings, but just make sure that it meets the energy report requirements if you are building a new home.

3) And lastly, do you have limited space in your ceiling? Flat roofs and cathedral ceilings often have limited cavity depths. With these ceilings, we recommend installing a high density insulation such as the R2.7HD, R3.1 or R4.0HD acoustic batts. This will help you to maximise your R-value in the limited space.
